Free Icons From IconBuffet.com

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Have you always wanted something for nothing?

Of course you do! Well I’ve found another jem upon my stumblings on the net which is something I do to pass time and most often, something I do to avoid work. The great thing about these is that they’re available for the low, low price of $0.00. And that sir, is a lot of donuts. Sweet.

While spending some free time, I’ve stumbled upon a neat little site that offers icons for free. Just visit famfamfam.com and you can thank Mark James, a UK based web developer for putting out there for us freebie lovers.

IconBuffet.com is also a great resource for commerical icons. They look so smooth and clean, often for a great price. And what’s even better is that they also offer free sets, but there’s a catch. You have to sign up, and at first you have 1 out of 16 sets. Every month, they’ll send you another delivery and so on until you get them all. At least, that’s the theory! You can always ask other members on the forum for the ones you’re missing, so it becomes more like an icon exchange party.

Always Make A Back Up

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

I’ve resigned myself to losing a month’s worth of email, work and personal. Losing something is always a hard thing to accept especially when you aren’t prepared, which is usually the case. Once again, the only thing I can say is that one should always make a backup of anything they don’t want to lose, be it emails, photos, music and of course, work.

My previous computer has been on the fritz for over a year, progressively getting worse by the day. It came to the point where I would hope that the computer stays on long enough to burn a CD so I can save something. I’ve read that this may not always be a good idea, as the files you may be saving could become corrupt.

Ah well, this isn’t actually the first time I’ve experienced a crash and burn. So, I’m not as insane with frustration. I’ve been pretty good at making backups once and while, but I always wish that I’ve made them more often and as recent.

My next plan of action would be to invest in a very good external drive. This will entail lengthy sessions of reading up on reviews and opinions on the matter. Until then, I’ll have to settle on expanding my ever growing collection CD and DVD books, along with the bum CD/DVD coaster collection.

So please, make a backup for I have felt the pain of betrayal as the light in my computer dimmed and a high pitched beep signaled its imminent failure. I spent an evening with my computer, turning it on and on to no avail. At least I can say is that it has served me well.

Peace out, big blue.

Failure with Thunderbird

Monday, February 6th, 2006

When it rains, it pours. My Thunderbird isn’t co-operating with me now and that’s just my luck right now. Here I am trying to get every scrap of information I can out of my ever non-responsive POS computer and this happens. My profiles are missing, the restores I’m attempting are bugged and just when you think you got it all fixed… the folders are empty. I’m outraged, I’m tired and I’m still pissed at the Seahawks for throwing the game.

I feel like Data in that episode of Star Trek, “The Offspring”, where he tries and tries to help fix Lal but for every problem he solved, more came to take its place. They say it was a cascade failure, similar to these bouts of bad luck except that I won’t be so sad to see this pile of rubbish behind me.

And hey, if I’m even a bit lucky, I might just get my mail back sans a whole month worth of mail. Here’s hoping.

It’s common for a designer to pull all nighters to get the work done.

Monday, February 6th, 2006

It’s early in the morning and I’ve still got a lot more to do. This is another one of those all-nighters where I need to get work done and nothing seems to go right. My computer has been on the verge of retirement, actually it retired awhile ago and I’ve been willing it to work without much success. I’m at my significant other’s computer and hopefully I’ll have more success at completing my project and catching some shut eye before more work for the day.

On an unrelated note, the Seahawks lost and that’s lame. Why do they suck so much? Why Lord? Why! I’m not a sports fanatic at all, I just like to watch the SuperBowl and betting on the underdog, so going for the Seahawks was a no brainer. It just made me so GRR to watch them lose.

But enough, to the work I go. Timmy’s sounds good right about now.
